On Saturday 30th November, the UCTF women's cricket team brought home their second consecutive national T20 title.
In a tense final against Tornado, the girls batted first and posted 95-6. Runs came from captain Gertrude Chandiru (26), Barbra Mukankusi (17) and Ritah Nyangendo (16). In reply, Tornado were stifled by the tight bowling of Nyangendo and Flavia Laker, and only managed a total of 74-6.
In addition to the tournament crown, some of the girls were awarded individual honours. Player of the Tournament went to Ritah Nyangendo, Best Bowler to Carol Namugenyi, and Best Batsman to Barbra Mukankusi.
UCTF is incredibly proud of the continued success of our girls on the cricket pitch. Thanks are due to Jonathan Sebanja and Jackson Ogwang for the hard work they put into coaching the girls every week. The quality and quantity of training remains the difference between our girls and the rest of the clubs in Uganda. Most of all though, congratulations must go to the players themselves. Here's hoping that they can make it a hat-trick of T20 crowns in 2014!
