“My name is David Oringa. I am a Ugandan born on 9th October 1993 in a family of six children. I am from northern Uganda. I lost my father when I was 8 years old who was paying my school fees. Good enough, I was involved in the tennis holiday programs of UCTF, which was an opportunity and a stepping stone for me when they took me on officially as one of the members. UCTF has since then supported me through my education and sports which has presented lots of opportunities.
Playing tennis has been a guiding inspiration for working hard and being successful. I have represented my country in the under 14 East African Junior championship (AJC) in Kenya, 2004 Lugogo Junior championship winner, 3 times finalist in 2009, 2010 and 2011 at the Tennis Africa Cup in Uganda, and a 2010 quarterfinalist in Junior Olympics that was held in Rabat, Morocco. Most recently, I won the Uganda Tennis Open Tournament 2012 becoming the youngest player to ever win the event and I was also awarded an award of the sportsman of the month from the Uganda Sports Press Association.
I have a dream of representing my country in the Olympic Games and aspire to be a role model to many young Ugandans who play sports. UCTF has played a great role in guiding me towards my successes by providing me with skilled coaches and tennis equipment that has brought me closer to achieving my dreams and targets.
I feel so lucky to be where I am today and I thank Uganda Charity Trust Fund for its kindness and support they have shown me throughout the years.”
(At the time this document is written, David Oringa is playing the quarter finals in Tanzania Open)
